Two days ago, some of my friend Yassir's friends were murdered in Baghdad by a suicide bomber. One year ago, Yassir, a soft spoken, humorous guy, was shot in the back by some violent scumbag for what amounted to no reason whatsoever. He was lucky to have survived. As you may or may not know, just prior to the U.S. invasion of Iraq, Saddam Hussein, the "Great Uncle," who so deeply loved his people, threw open the gates of Iraq's prisons and turned tens of thousands of murderers, rapists and thieves loose on his countrymen. Today, these animals are shredding what is left of Iraq's tattered social fabric.
At about the same time that Yassir's friends were being killed, another friend of mine informed me that a carload of men --(I use the word "men" loosely)-- had just pulled up to a crowd in Baghdad, grabbed a handful of people, threw them to the ground, slit their throats and then sawed their heads off -- in broad daylight. One off the murderers held up the head of one of his victims as a terrified crowd looked on. (What a healthy thing for people, and especially children, to see.)
Every day, I hear car bombs explode. Their concussions sometimes rattle the windows in my office. And then I climb to the top of the roof and watch the smoke of the dead rise towards the sky.
If you think that if the U.S. leaves this place the bloodshed will end, you are deluded. The killers here are playing to a press that longs for the defeat of the U.S. And the press could care less how its obsession effects Iraq or its people. In my opinion, a lot of violence in Iraq results from that symbiotic relationship. If all Western leftwing "journalists" were banned from Iraq, I'm convinced that the level of violence here would drop significantly. And if along with them, the Arab pro-terror media outlets were shut down, violence targeted towards Iraqi civilians would lessen even more.
Actors do not usually perform unless they have an audience.
Many Iraqis are dead because Western, so-called liberals, with their full stomachs, nice teeth, nice clothes, politically correct sensibilities and a self loathing that knows no bounds are, like spoiled, rotten children, intent on pushing their sick leftist ideology no matter the cost in human suffering.
My Iraqi friend "Mohammed," was once interviewed by a major media outlet in a cafe about his views on life after Saddam Hussein. During the interview, he gave the "journalist" interviewing him the up side and the down side of the liberation. with emphasis on the upside.
Not a single, positive thing Mohammed said made it on the air.
